AT jerks hard shifting to second

I have a 85 or 86 GMC Jimmy 2.8L and if i get on the gas hard from a stop and it doesn't die when it shifts into second gear it jerks really hard. All the rest of the gears are fine and when i step on the gas lightly it will shift ok but what fun is that

Is this a serius problem that i should be concerned about or just ignore it and hope i dont get whip lash.

<font face="Comic Sans MS">Sounds like you have a problem with your engine and that should be taken care of first so that you don't have to keep the pedal to the floor to keep it running. Then you won't get the hard shifting. Another thing you can do is check the fluid and if you haven't done so in a long while, I would change that and the filter.
