91 S10 Blazer Stuck Gearshift

I have a 1991 S10 Blazer, 2WD V6 and the gear shift will not move from park. It starts fine but will not shift, the lever won't move at all...any ideas

Thanks much

Re: 91 S10 Blazer Stuck Gearshift

are you parked on a hill? sometimes the transmission gets stuck because it is torque locked - like when you park on a hill, put it in park, and then the truck rolls backwards, then it is really hard to shift out of park. if this is the case, have someone rock the vehicle forwards and backwards till you can get it to shift, or jack up the rear of the vehicle to release the tension, and then try to shift...
just my two (2) cents

You might try putting another vehicle infront of it, using a strap and a come-along to take the pressure off of the truck so you can get it out of park. Keep in mind that it might happen every time you park on a hill. It's designed to be used in conjunction with the parking brake...

Re: 91 S10 Blazer Stuck Gearshift

hey the same thing happened to my work truck. only after a tow truck was called i discovered what was wrong. i had kicked off the brake/shift lock out plug. this devise prevents you from shifting an auto tranny out of park if you dont have your foot on the brake. this switch is located on the brake pedal and has a small wiring harness/plug. this plug is easily kicked off. plug the switch in and you should be able to move the shifter. good luck i hope this helps. be careful when moving the truck if it is torque locked.
