91 blazer

My friend just got a 91 blazer w/ 4.3. 4x4, auto, ect.
Is there anything that is known for breaking on this truck? What axles and transfer case does he have? I guess the tranny is a 700r4. Were going to put a flowmaster on it tomorrow, I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks

Re: 91 blazer

Over the weekend we took off cat and muffler, put on 2 chamber flowmaster, K N air filter, new O2 sensor. It still doesnt have the power it should, any suggestions why it is lacking power, it has stock size tires so it isnt b/c of bigger meats. Next weekend will dii a full tun up Plugs wires cap rotor, and a JET chip.

Re: 91 blazer

It will likely benefit from a tune-up. Look inside the glovebox for the RPO codes. If it has "GU4", it has 3.08:1 gears, "GU6" is 3.42:1, GU8=posi-traction.
www.s10-4x4.com has a decoder for the rest. The axles are a 7.2" ring gear IFS up front, and a 7 5/8" 10 bolt rear with 28 spline axles. The transfer case is an NP231C and has a 2.72:1 low-range. Sometimes the fan clutch being locked up all the time will rob MAJOR power! With the mods you're gonna make to it, it should really scream, though. Good luck.
