VSS LOCATION

I am getting a code 32 on my 87 gmc s-15 pickup, 2.8l 5 spd 4x4. The chiltons decodes it as a vehicle speed sensor malfunction. Either an open circuit or it's being grounded. Where is the vss? Does it connect to speedometer, t-case or t-mission? Stock tires on the truck were p215/75r15 and the ones now are 30-9.5-15.

Re: VSS LOCATION

Hi, all books I have say EGR malfunction for code 32 - code 24 is VSS but maybe the '87 codes are different of '89.
Is your speedometer/milage counter working ?
The sensor is located on the T-Case ('89 S-10) near the rear output shaft.

Greetings from Austria

Re: VSS LOCATION

Speedometer and odometer both function properly except the difference in tire size. The codes for 86-87 vehicles is different. The thing on the t-case is a mechanical speedometer cable and not a sensor.

Re: VSS LOCATION

The reason the codes for 86 and 87 are different...87 was the first year for the TBI ..i think..lol
