timing belt

I'm getting a 97 S-10 with the 4 cylinder 5 speed and was wondering what the normal amount of mileage is when the timing belt needs to be replaced. The truck I am getting is in good shape and has about 60000 miles on it.

Re: timing belt

If I remeber right, the 2.2L 4cylinder uses a timing chain. To be sure, look in the owners manual and it should tell the reccomended service interval. 60K is a little high for a 97, but probably mostly highway.

Re: timing belt

Thanks for the reply 355S-10 I'll check out the owners manual as soon as I get the truck my son has it in another state and will bring it to me in a couple of days I just figured that all the newer vehicles had gone to the timing belt instead of the chain. And the truck does have mostly high way miles on it,my son has owned it for a while, it had low miles on it when he bought it but he commutes to work.
