humming sound

I recently bought a 1990 S-10 Blazer 4x4, with a 4.3 and I just noticed a low pitched humming sound comming from the front end of the truck. (and no, I'm sure it's not the tires, I have a set of 255/70/15's on it, they are are not off road tires) I'm just wondering what that noise could be.....

Re: humming sound

It could be because your truck does not know the words.. Ahaaa i kill me.. Couldn't resist.. Could be the wheel bearings going out.. Jack up the front and turn the wheels.. If you hear a grinding noise its your bearings. Also a way to test is grab the tire top and bottom and pull back and forth.. If there is exsesive play then the bearings are bad.. This is a common problem.. They run about $130 to $200 and if your mech inclined you could probably do it with a Haynes or FSM.. Save yourself about $200+ labor a side..

Re: humming sound

It could be the bearings even if you don't have any play in the bearings. I think thats what my problem is with my 90 GMC Jimmy. The bearings don't feel bad when you spin them but with the added load of the truck they rumble.
