Cheap Traction Bars ???

Does anyone know if I can bolt on those basic traction bars that cost $25-$30 on
Lil Zilla? Now I have the axle flip, so the axle is under the leaf springs. Can I mount
the traction bars on top of the leaf springs? See I have a lot and I mean a lot of
axle wrap under half throtle. I had one of my friends drive Lil Zilla while I followed him.
At complete stop then start to take off the whole rear end tourqed upward extremly
bad.I don't want to put those nice traction bars on ( the kind that bolt or weld to the axle
housing and bolt to the frame) because I will lose lots of ground clearance for running
in the mud and other terrain.I don't think those kicker shocks would be much help.
Any help will be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

Re: Cheap Traction Bars ???

Yes you can and they will help with axle wrap BUT.. They will limit your already low flex.. Those bars will bind first before any of your suspension will.. YOu right about the kicker shocks (worthless and the lower trac bars do limit clearance.. The real way to do this is get a 10 leaf spring pack made.. They limit axle wrap by having so many leaves its too stiff to rotate but you can have it dialed to how soft you want the main leaves on down.. But $500 a set from National is a bit above your $30 basic fix..

One note is to verify the u-bolts are torqed to 85lbs.. They can come loose if they have been removed before and cause a lot of that rotation.. Trust me.. Found another 15 miles per tank by making sure those where tight..

Re: Cheap Traction Bars ???

Zilla, Tom here. I have Mark Halls recipe for a spring wrap up conversion. He just got a set of used springs from a full size and applied them to the stock S-10 leaf pack except for the flat spring. He got another 4" of lift though. I think you could just do a mod of that and leave out one or 2 of them. It is a 7 leaf pack now. I have a good pic of his rearend too that shows the springs good. It holds his 383 stroker in check with the 38 TSL's too. If you like e-mail me and I'll send you his e-mail's he sent me on the subject. Tom
