Plug wires?

My father has a 1994 GMC Jimmy with a 4.3 vortec. The problm is that when its cold it idles very poorly. It seems to be a consistent misfire in my opinion. When gas is given it runs fine but when gas is let off it will do it again. THere is also some unburnt fuel that is getting pumep out. He has has everything on it changed electronic contorl wise and I dont want him spending more money. I hope you can help.

Re: Plug wires?

It still sounds like an electronic problem. Like a cold start injector or choke is not metering the gas properly. If there's gas getting pumped out then it's not burning it all properly or is getting too much in the first place!

If it warms up to normal temp OK and then runs fine, the plug wires shouldn't be your problem; if they are bad a cylinder wouldn't work all the time.

Sorry if that doesn't answer your question fully, but that's what I thought of when I read this. Hope it at least points you in the right direction!

Re: Plug wires?

Call the $tealer near you and give them the VIN.. there is a recall for injectors durring that year.. My 94 GMC Sonoma CPI did the same thing and it was the injectors.. Also see if you can get a new cat out of them because of all the gas that got dumped out.. Mine was clogged up a bit but didn't find out till way later.. Too late..
