Inline 6 in an S-truck?

I've heard rumors a couple of times now that GM is thinking about offing the 4.3L V-6 for a new inline that measures 4.2L of displacement. Next to the 350, the 4.3 is one of the best truck engines ever made (IMHO)! Has anybody else heard anything like this?

Re: Inline 6 in an S-truck?

The new Chevy Trailblazers are going to run the inline six. Larry Ragland, Vortec Engineering and Herzog Racing were on that project.

That six cylinder is a mean monster! It put out about 600 hp and about 600 ft. lbs. of torque. The stock ones can probably put about 300 hp modified slightly...

I-6's are generally very good on the torque curve. I think it would be pretty damn cool!!!

Re: Inline 6 in an S-truck?

How in the world could they squeeze 600 hp and 600 ft-lb out of a 250something cubic inch engine without melting rings and burning holes in pistons? I know the inline 6's that GM had out a while back were (and are) revered as good engines. I'm glad to see the new ones are even better...

Re: Inline 6 in an S-truck?

The race version is a 5.0l And the production is going to have 270hp and 275ft-lb. If that doesn't sound right look at a northstar (caddilac)v8 it is 4.6l and has 300hp and 290ft-lb. 10:1 compression, 4 valve/cyl and dohc. plus the 4.2l six has variable valve timing
