Back to 4.3

If any of you read my reply to the Hypertech post, you'll know that I plan on retiring the 355 in my S-10(sniff,sniff)because of cooling problems and other overlooked drivetrain issues-100K miles on axles. I'll be replacing it with a 4.3, probably a complete rebuild with a few mods, Edelbrock intake, 1.6 roller rockers, headers, gear drive, maybe some more mods. I'll be rebuilding the stock rear if I cannot find a good ZR-2 8.5" one. Probably go with 4.10s, and a Detroit if they make one. For the front, the IFS has to go, I cannot see rebuilding it all for another thrash-fest. I will try to find a Dana 30 reverse rotation with the 4.10s in it, and maybe an Air-Locker, but probably open. I might try to put a 4:1 lo-range in an Np231 for a great crawl ratio. I wish i had the cash to duplicate ORUs 2000 Suburbans front IFs, long travel with Dana 60 stubshafts and U-jointed axles, boxed control arms, big shock hoops, very cool, would be good with a Dana 44 in an S10. I wish I would have rebuilt some of this stuff before I put the V-8 in, and I wish I would have rebuilt the engine. Oh well, hindsights always 20/20!

Re: Back to 4.3

That sucks! How big is the radiator on that 355? Got anymore spare cooling lines?

I personally think you should keep the big motor! Just upgrade the tranny and the axles. Since you're going to SFA it shouldn't matter much anyway, and you'll probably save some money in short run!
