MORE S10 BASHING FROM PETERSEN\'S

<font color=blue>That is it! I have had it with petersen's. Them A*SHOLES have had there fun with the s10 bashing and I can not take it any more! I just got the November 2000 issue and there is more s10 BASHING in it by christian hazel. On page 89 he starts it out like this."Be honest. How many of you S-10 fanatics lost your mind when you turned the page and saw Lance Hammer's creation on 38.5 Boggers? Well we hate to disappoint you, but Lance's ride is actually a '74 Blazer. That's right, let the S-10 bashing continue! Ha, ha, ha." We all need to e-mail him and tell him how we feel! Here are the E-mails I have so far. I will try to get hazel's E-mail as well as a phone #. If you do not have the mag I am adding the page that I scaned so you can see for your self. I need to make it smaller and then I will add it.

Hi Jeff,
I know that there are a lot of S-trucks out there that are worthy of being in Petersons. Are people not submitting info about there trucks so that a magazine write-up can be done, or is Petersons just overlooking them because of there lack of support for the S-trucks. I know that your truck is one that is worthy of being in an article. Is there someone that is willing to take the time and has the experience to put together a package to submit to Petersons. This whole bashing thing really bothers me, and I would like to see petersons have no excuse for not putting a non bashing article in one of there issues.

Re: MORE S10 BASHING FROM PETERSEN\'S

At first I just thought this was a new guy at the mag trying to do something different and "make news". Now it just seems that he is just Stupid. This isn't good business to alienate even a perspective group of customers. I have considerable time and money involved in my blazer but no more than the full size I had. Yes I have axles swapped in. I completely rebuilt the red trucks axles. Only thing left was the housings. Yes I swapped in another motor. Yes I did in the full size too. I have heard so much out of Jeep guys about how superior they are. I got thrown off a guy's lot for, after he completely trashed my red truck, pointing out he had a 454/th350/208/& 1 ton axles. I said his looked more chevrolet than mine did. He is a big shop around here and I have had no faith in him since. My confidense in this kid has been shaken after the second foot went down his throat.

Re: MORE S10 BASHING FROM PETERSEN\'S

What they fail to realize is that all SERIOUS off-road machines are a conglomoration of various parts from stock to highly modified, and all STOCK vehicles SUCK off-road, and are designed for carlike rides and on road manners. ALL manufacturers have had problem engines, GM with the early 2.8, and some 305s, Ford had the 2.8, the 2.9, 3.8s, Chyslers 2.2L and 2.5, etc. I can't believe they said every trans that uses ATF sucks, what about the [email protected]! Low 1st gear and a nice Overdrive. How about a Th400, 4l60E, 4L80E, C6, TH350, 700R-4, TF727, TF904, etc. If memory serves me right, all thse use ATF, and ALL transmissions since the 90s use ATF! What a tard! I can't believe they let someone so clueless write an article! I'm cancelling my subscription to all PETERSEN magazines, hopefully I'll send a message!

I don't agree that stock vehicles "suck" off road. They do just fine provided you use them for what they were intended for...if you want to do more extreme, then by all means build it up.

I can agree if you don't like what a magazine prints, then cancel your subscription....IMHO, I try not to care what other people think of my stock 1986 Jeep Cherokee....with the so called crappy 2.8L, TF 904, NP 207 and the so called weak D30 and 35c axles. I've had the Cherokee for 15 years and it works just fine on road and off....you shouldn't put much stock in what some writer says...you know what works for you. Good Luck!!

Re: MORE S10 BASHING FROM PETERSEN\'S

It is sad to read. He sounds like he is talking down to us. I guess he will be trashing all IFS trucks. You know they are all expensive to lift. Add to that the lack of articulation he shouldn't be able to resist. And talking about stock form what about the Hummer which is a gm product too. Oh yea, and ifs. He Didn't apologise about offending anyone. He explained why we shouldn't be offended. I don't care if I have $1 invested in my blazer don't put it down. I invest @$3 in each issue of his. Whoops, Not anymore...

By the way what makes the later s-10's so much better than the early? There is no more ground clearance and they are just as expensive to lift if not more so than early. Bigger back axle. OK I'll buy that but the front is the same. You can't get a 4.56 gear for the front. The 2.8 injected motor was as strong as the pinto 4cylinders I've seen in flat fenders and it worked well on inclines due to no floats to slosh. and the auto tranny has a fairly low 1st throughout with an overdrive. I don't understand his qualifying it by early. He couldn't dig a deeper hole with a 580 case backhoe...
