solid front axle??

I have an 86 s10 that needs a solid front axle. I know I can fabricate a kit like that one company makes (?) I my real questions come from what axle I should use. I have seen Grand Wagoneers (80ish) with two dana 44 and driver side front pumpkin. If I used them both with probally 33 or 35's would they last long with a 3.4 with mild upgrades and low gears??? any one done this??

Re: solid front axle??

With only a 3.4, you would have to be pretty rough to break a Dana 44, they are a very good axle to use. be sure to gear it right so your engine and tire combination works out properly. I would use 4:11 for 33" tires or 4:56 for 35" tires. I'm installing one in my S-15 Jimmy right now, and it has a 350.
