Rear seal blown?

I have a question for ya'll It looks as if my rear seal blew, I was driving home last night and the truck started smoking like crazy, so I imediately turned the engine off and pulled over, then got out and noticed all the oil pouring out of between the back of the oil pan, and the tranny, so I figure rear seal. The truck never lost power, never lost oil pressure. So my question is it worth taking the engine out and rebulding it, or is it minor enough that I should just drop the tranny and install the rear seal. oh the truck has 119,000miles on it.

Thanks
Loal

Re: Rear seal blown?

Has it been leaking for awhile, and just now gotten ALOT worse? I am sure it could happen but I have never heard of one just all of a sudden blowing out like that?
By the way, a few months ago my 87 Jimmy dumped about a 2quarts of oil on my driveway in about 5 seconds, turned out to be the oil pressure sending unit!
Whether to pull & rebuild is your call. If you have good oil pressure and compession, I would just fix the leak!
