Re: ball joints, how long to replace them

If they have never been touched it will be a PITA to get the rivits off. Get an air hammer to do the work.. Drilling will require time.. If its bolts not a problem, a few hrs a side.. I would say a 12 pack sould cover it..

Re: ball joints, how long to replace them

Set aside all afternoon. It's not hard just a PIA!!! Beg, borrow or steal a 36mm socket, cause they are pricey at the auto junk store. The rivits will require a 4" grinder (or something similar) and a drill. A MAJOR PIA!!!!!!

Hit? Them tires rub. Rubbin's off roadin.

Re: ball joints, how long to replace them

Just replaced my on sunday. It took all afternoon on my 94 S-10. I drilled out the rivets and punched them out. Thats what it says to do in the service manual. And i put napa's premium ball joints in. They got a life time warrenty. Thought i better do that cause of the wheel spacers really plays hell with them. Plus the GM ones are really expensive. Dad works at a local chevy dealer thats what he recommened

Re: ball joints, how long to replace them

well fellas, i got them changed. i did it without removing the spindal from the driveshaft... pretty easy to do it, once you can get the ball joints lose. the one upper was stuck in there pretty good, took me a few hours to get it out. i used carquest ball joints, but they are made by moog. it was a PIA, but it was worth saving $250 in labor cost. found i need a new tie rod end, but haven't gotten that yet.
