87 s10 blazer open intake

Hey guys i just got a 87 blazer for free . 2.8, 5 speed 4x4. Thers about a million vacume lines on this thing, adn i was gonna put an open air filter on it, but the map sensor is on the side of the stock intake. Does this actual do anything or can i just unplug it, or should i let it plugged in & ziptie it to something?
Thanks

I had a 92 with 4.3 TBI, and put an open element filter on it. It's probably a bit different than yours though.
