Motor Queries

My Vortec 4.3(S10 Blazer), seems to be a bit of a Dog, compared to the Vortec 4.3 in my dads S10 Pickup. When Im at a Idle and I hit it hard it seems to almost flood out from 0 to about 20-25 then it starts to go. Would this be a sensor or something. This weeking I think I am going to go get a Air Filter, and maybe spark plugs and wires. Should I try a Cap and Rotor also? Could is possibley be a fuel filter? Thanks for any help guys.

Re: Motor Queries

I would replace the fuel filter...

I always replace cap and rotor with plugs and wires btw... I am not sure if ti is necessary but I do it anyway, and keep the old ones for spares...

Good luck man...

Re: Motor Queries

consider that a blazer weighs more than a pickup and that if wou have bigger tires or if he has lower gears it would make a huge difference ..... my reg cab 87 with a 2.8 and 3.73's would smoke my ext cab with a 4.3 and 3.42's off the line up to about 30 mph

Re: Motor Queries

the Blazer has a 4.3, 235s/75s, and 3.43s, im not sure what my dads truck has, but with all the tools in the back of his truck, id say it weighs at least as much if not more then my blazer. Im gonna start in on changing stuff this weekend.

Re: Motor Queries

They might still have different 4.3's in there. Check the VIN numbers on each and then the sticker in the glove boxes to compare the RPO codes. In some cases there will be the 160 motor vs. the 180 hp motor (L35?). Not much of a difference, but it's still something.

Also consider placement of the weight that's there. No matter what, the truck is going to have better placement over the rear axle than the Blazer.

And if they're both automatics then I can see where you're wondering. But if the S-10 truck has a manual there's an issue right there...

It's good to do the PM on it anyway...

Oh, and when I had my '98 with a manual vs. a '99 ZR2 Blazer I always managed to smoke it. Especially up hills where the ZR2 would bog down or even hit the limiters!

Re: Motor Queries

when is the last time it had a good tune up? It might very well be time to change your filters, plugs, wires, cap & rotor, oil.

Re: Motor Queries

Off Topic, BUT...

Looked at your location and thought: Hey! I was born in Havelock! At the Naval Hospital.

Just had to point that out. I need to go there one of these days. I was too young to remember anything about it.

Re: Motor Queries

Also I put a new fuel filter and pcv filter on it. A friend of mine ran diagnostics for me. All 4, 0-2 sensors are junk.
