Cracked front axle.....I love ifs!

Broke the ifs once,,,,replaced front axle, within 24 hours of the 6 hour job I split the new one in half.......(Yes there is a Dana 44 sittin in my garage just waiting for a Dana 60 or 9" brethern to join and become one with my truck.) If I only had all the money in the world and werent in the army being deployed all the time......But its just so fun.....Here's the question Can only the S10 units fit us or can somehow through magic can the 8.25 axles that are on the full size ifs trucks fit in ours. If not what axle do I look for, for strength?? My last two front axles I got for cheap because i'd rather be putting a solid instead of another IFS unit in. I'm talkin I conviced a guy to let me take one for 15 bucks the last one I got for 35$. I can only get lucky so many times before I'm forced to wheel with just my rear axle and locker combo......how do you tell alum. vs cast iron housing? and is there a code for 3.42 gears on the housing? attatched pic
