Low range gears for 2wd

Does anyone know if it is possible for me to put a np231/207 transfer case on my 98 5-speed s10 TWO WHEEL DRIVE so that I have the low gear range for pulling out of boat ramps, etc? I don't need a 4x4, I just need the lower gearing without changing the highway gearing. I can fabricate a cap or something to cover the front driveshaft output. Any input or suggestions appreciated.

Re: Low range gears for 2wd

It's doable, but why not get a 4x4? or turn your 2wd into a custom SFA 4x4?

You'd have to fab up a sleeve to cover a fair sized chunk of your Transmission output shaft (4x4s use shorter ones) and you'd be looking at a new driveshaft too. Might be better off at regearing your transmission so that 1st gear is a bull-low gear, and do your normal driving between 2nd and 5th gear (thus making your ride a 4-plus low setup)

Can't be done with those tc's divorced 205 yes but it weighs like 150lbs.

Easiest way is to swap transmissions to n auto 4l60e and get tc that mounts to it, 4wd crossmember, and driveshaft.

How far into the water are you going? Is your clutch getting wet?

Maybe put in a centerforce dual friction clutch so you can rev the motor up a bit.
