2.8L too wimpy

I have a 1984 S-10 Blazer with a carb 2.8L and 3sp with OD auto tranny. I have added 3 inches of body and am wanting to add some 31x10.50, 15s. My problem lies in the wimpy engine under the hood. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to increase the engine power without emptying my wallet ?

Re: 2.8L too wimpy

Not much you can do with a boat anchor other than maybe some headers, and a K&N filter. A straight up bolt in engine swap would be a 3.4 L v6 out of a camaro, they make just as much horsepower as a TBI 4.3 but not as much torque. The other option if you're gonna swap engines is to go with a 350, but that could get spendy.
