What version Flowmaster do you have? The only what to get a V8 sound is by dropping in a V8.. Our 6 bangers have their own sound.. Go with a Flow 40 serieshttp://www.flowmastermufflers.com/web10/productsf5.html, open up the pipe after the cat to 2 1/4", Replace cat with high flow, JBA headers, And finally throw a tip on the end so it trumpets the exhaust sound.. Now every cop in town will hear you coming and your neighbors will hate you..

Depending on your local laws and how green you are.. Opening up the cat does give it a lower tone and some volume.. Not sure why I know that..

if you want it truely good and loud....don't put a muffler on. leave the cat but no muffler at all. i did that and it sounded great. fyi - i have 3" pipes though. it was soo loud that i couldn't hear the engine, so i put a flowmaster series 40 on it. good sound but honestly pretty quiet compared to the old sound. but now i can hear if something is going foul.
