What transmission for a \'84 to \'88 2.8 V6?

What 4 speed automatic bolts up to a 2.8 V6 in a '84 to '88 S10 or S15 4x4? What transfer case?

99% chance it's a 700R4 mated to a NP207.

That is why they used a 700R4 with the bolt pattern for the 60º V6... These do exist. The automatic transmission in that vintage vehicle would have been either the 700R4, or 200R4, I believe 700R4 though...

it's most definately a 700r4. i don't think they started using the 4L60 or 4L60E until the new body style. and the Tcase is indeed a 207. the 231s are only on the 4.3s, but now they use a 233 i think.

They made the 700R4 to fit everything, including BOP-C.

The only other four-speed was the 200-4R and I don't think they ever put those in a S10. These are easy to identify because of the one piece case. Since they're one piece it certainly can't be a 200-4R because you can't hook a transfer case to it.
