Re: EGR keeps clogging up

I kinda don't understand. Do you mean to say that you're continually getting the EGR clogged up enough to stop working?

If that's the case then you have some interesting other problems going on in your engine, and it's blowing it through the EGR and exhaust!

Re: EGR keeps clogging up

Sorry not tooo descriptive on this matter. It`s a "86" S-10
pickup 4X4 that keeps on comming up code 32.I`ve replaced the EGR valve and got a EGR solenoid from a wrecking yard.
I start up the truck and she runs great,I go about a mile down the road and the Service engine soon light comes on.
I mean the light just bothers me cause it`s on and I can`t figure out how to repair the problem. This weekend I remove the EGR valve and sprayed some carb cleaner in there, and started the engine and she rapped out!shut her down quick
and replace d the EGR valve. it does the same thing .
I am running out of options,do you have any?
Thanks J.R.

Re: EGR keeps clogging up

Makes much more sense now!

Keep in mind that troublecode never really point DIRECTLY at the problem; it just gives you a place to start.

If you can perform a vacuum test on the EGR and it does what it's supposed to do than this is not your problem! Putting vacuum on the EGR should cause the engine to go nuts, stumbling and all if I remember correctly.

I would also look into some other options that deal with the surrounding systems. If Hammerdown is still online he might be able to help you out better!

Re: EGR keeps clogging up

I have a '94 s10 4x4 blazer. I've replaced the EGR valve FOUR times. Carbon deposits are getting into the valve, causing it to stick open. When this happens, the engine loses its vacumn and runs like crap (especially at idle). Yesterday, I had both pieces of the intake manifold cleaned out and a new EGR valve installed. Within a 5 miles test drive, the valve stuck AGAIN! I've tried to get at the root cause of this carbon build up, and the service tech says its just the BAD GAS here in OHIO (BS?) Any Ideas?

Re: EGR keeps clogging up

I`ve only replaced mine once and picked up a solenoid at a junkyard. I`ve picked up the valve at Shucks. I wonder if I went to a Chevrolet parts dept and bought a new valve would correct the problem.I`ll try to talk to a mechanic and see if he can solve our problem too!

Re: EGR keeps clogging up

I considered this and did a little research. With the valve shut during acceleration (when it should be open) combustion chamber temperatures will rise above normal operating levels, causing preignition and associated "pinging" and "knocking". Did you experience any of this when you closed yours?
