How do I turn off the check engine light?

I recently disconnect the wiring harness for the air flow sensor on my S-10 just to see if I would get better intake flow. When I started up the truck, the engine almost cut out numerous times and then started running like normal. Also, when I disconnected the air flow sensor, the check engine light came on (as expected). Well ...., since I couldn't tell any difference w/ the air flow senosr unhooked, I reconnected, but now the check engine light won't go off! Any way to get this light to shut off in my garage, or do I need to go into the shop?

Try disconnecting the battery for four or five min. that should erase the fault memory,
this will make the truck run rough for a little while until it relearns your driving habits.
