S-10 Rear
Help! These are what I call bumblebee questions, meaning they're pretty basic and I should be embarassed to ask, but here goes. I want to install posi in our most recent addition to the fleet, a 93 S-10 Blazer. What will interchange? My local yard has an 85 s-10 3.73 posi (and housing). He wanted to know if my ring was a 7 1/2 or 7 5/8. I don't know without pulling off the plate. The rear is a 3.42 according to the codes.
Also, if I install the 3.73, does it mess up the front end when I'm driving in 4 WD on the highway in snow? Is it better to buy the parts and install them in the original rear? This blazer will not see much intentional off-road use. Thanks! JW 89 K-1500; 93 Burb; 93 S-10 Blazer |
Re: S-10 Rear
You don't want to do that for two reasons. The biggest being you will fry your transfer case real quick running mismatched gears. The second is you have a 7 5/8, which is stronger than the 7 1/2. I believe '88 with the 4.3 liter was the change over year from the 7 1/2 to the 7 5/8's.
