Custom or Used

Would it be better to buy a used military Humvee or buy one relativly new? If you planned on turning that military Humvee into a custom humvee, then you would have all the custom items you wanted, know the vehicle inside and out, plus go in 5 ft of water. But it would cost some serious money. On the other hand buy one that costs some money but comes with all the items you would normally want, but not exactly custom.

Re: Custom or Used

I didn't think the government would ever sell their old HMMWV's to the public. But if they did, keep in mind that those trucks are likely beat to heck. Lot's of miles, worn out components, etc.. Probably a lot of money to make them road worthy again.

Re: Custom or Used

there are some that are to sale for the public, but yea the military did beat them to hell. If I ever bought a military humvee it would probably be going for a good body and frame (no rust, etc). My plan would be to restore it, add all the cumforts of a civil. hummer, and just drive it til the tran and eng fell out and just buy a better when it happens. But that would cost some money. So would it be cheaper or better to do custom or buy a hummer already built like it for a heaftier price.

Check out The Berserker, its on the main page of Off Road, hummer page. They took a military humvee and turned in to a kick ass hummer.

Shawn Smith at Angry Iron did the build of The Berserker... his previous rig is a cool one, too; it is the one featured on the DVD "MOAB: Like Nothing Else" by IMV Films.

BTW, the Berserker is featured in the latest issue of Ultimate Hummers Magazine (Spring 06 issue).
