The first place I'd start, is with the shop that you're having do the machining.
If they're at all "on the ball", they will already know what works and what doesn't as far as mods go.
Speaking of which, now's the time to decide.

What you're using the engine for, determines what parts will go into it.
There are a lot of good kits available that have all the necessary internal components and gaskets.
You'll usually save quite a bit of money going that route.
In addition, there are several matched cam/intake manifolds available now.
Look up Edelbrock "Performer" and Holley "SystemMax".
Are you doing the final assembly yourself?
