400M POWER

Just bought 79 bronco ranger xlt. came with 400m mated to the c6. it already has 4 barrel carb, jacobs ignition, headers, and high volume fuel pump, but it just doesn't feel like it has any ponies at all. It feels like it has plenty of torque though. What more could i do to pump some testosterone into this weakling? trying to keep it affordable, but any ideas would be helpfull.
Thanks, Dewayne

Re: 400M POWER

This is affordable, but a bit of work.
Get a timing chain set for a '70 or '71 400M ('70 preferrably) and install that.
The later models have drastically retarded cam timing, which is why your's is a dog on the top end.
You could advance your current cam sproket 1-tooth, would give you 4 - 6 advance, in relation to the crank.
However, I'll bet that chain's fairly stretched by now.
New set is around $35 - $45 for a decent double roller type.

Re: 400M POWER

Just so you know, its a 400, not a 400m, there never was a 400 m, only a 351 m.....
