how to find exact model axle with this number?

This may not be the best place to post the question, but I'll give it a shot. (It's also in the Ford Trucks forum.) I'm in the process of breaking down and rebuilding a junkyard axle that I got several weeks ago. I THOUGHT that the red paint on the axle said "7.8 Ford," (as in a 7.8" ring gear), but after closer inspection it appears that it actually reads 76 Ford (as in 1976 Ford rear axle). The little I.D. plate bolted on to the differential cover has the number:
2 72 D7TA AF
603869-7
Would this be enough to tell me the exact model axle it is, or would I have to look for some number printed on the differential carrier, differential case, ring gear, etc.? Thanks.

"2 72" is the ratio - 2.72:1. The second line is the bill of materials (BOM), but it's older than Dana's database covers. The last digit of the BOM should be less than 4 - recheck the tag.
