Need engine ID help!!!1

A friend just bought a 73 Ford commercial truck. It is the old U-haul style with a 30 box van body.

The decals say the engine is a "359 heavy duty." It has a 2 barrel and a 3 speed on the floor.

Can anyone tell me what engine this really is?

Re: Need engine ID help!!!1

You didnt say what size the truck was but ford used HD motors in ther trucks like the 360 in a pu was a 361 in the biger trucks 390 to 391 they had special valves and hd crank double roller timming chane ect. you would need to look at it and see if it is in the FE typ should be 331,352 360,390,406,427 were all FE motors.hope this helps you. Re: Need engine ID help!!!1

Its probably in the FE series engines. I know there is a 330HD/352LD/360LD/361HD/389HD/390LD/391HD/428LD&HD. Its not listed in my AERA casting# book but i believe its probably the same as the 361HD.Does it have that HUGE intake manifold thats part of the head? Look for a casting number on the heads between the exhaust ports where the sparkplugs are. If its (C4TE-A,C,D,E,/C7TE-C/C8TE-D/D1TE-FA or D3TE-FA)then its in that class.

If its not that style manifold, then i have no idea what it could be...
