Strange thing?????

Today I noticed a pop in the steering wheel as soon as I pressed on the brake. It wasn't a big pop just enough to let me know it was there. I just couldn't figure out the connection or cause.

Re: Strange thing?????

"pop" or a "clunk?" If its a cluck you might want to check your u-joints.

Re: Strange thing?????

Ok, more like a "pip" it is in the steering wheel itself? The steering wheel seems to "pop" towards me. It feels like someone just taps on it.?????

I'm assuming that your XLT has a tilt column. There are u-joints in it, and although I've never seen one go bad, there's always that possibility. Do you keep it straight in line, or tilted? Does it happen every time you steer, or only under certain circumstances (driving low speed, driving high speed, stopped, etc.)? Does it alway occur when the wheel is turning across the same position (4-o'clock, etc.)? Have you looked at the rag joint?

Re: Strange thing?????

Success... After spending my lunch break on my head under the dash. I figured it out, the bracket for the brake pedal is attached to the column behind the dash, and when I put on the brake the leverage and a slightly loose bolt made a "pop". It wasn't major, but just annoying. Thank's for all the input.
