Aftermarket fuel injection
Anyone know who makes an aftermarket MPI for a small block ford.

Re: Aftermarket fuel injection
I picked up a basketcase CJ7 which included a completely rebuilt Ford 302. The engine has an Autolite 2V carb and I would like to replace it with MPI.
I know I can pull an MPI system off of a late model 302 with EEC-IV but that means heads, computer and wiring harness ... you know ... major mods. I was just trying to keep it simple. By the way, the Accel unit is only made for Chevy engines. Rockcrusher |
Re: Aftermarket fuel injection
I pulled a beater 351 out of a truck and put in a 5.0L and I didn't notice anything about the heads that was specific to EFI - the injectors are in the manifold. I threw away the manifold, plenum, and throttle body when I changed it to the car style, because they were so cheap to buy in the junkyard. Check near you. It may be cheaper than you think.

Re: Aftermarket fuel injection
Sorry to be a little off topic, but, is there any difference between the FI on a 302 and 351? Could I use a manifold and injectors from a 302 to change my 351 to FI? Thanks

Re: Aftermarket fuel injection
The Upper plenum is the same but the 302 and 351 intakes are not interchangable because of the 351s increased deck height. So you'll have to find a 351 lower. Also if the setup is Speed Density, I would think that running a 351 with a 302 computer may not make the best running motor. Speed density will compensate - to a extent, I wouldn't know if it would matter to much.

Re: Aftermarket fuel injection
Some 302's use a smaller (different color) injector. Installing them on a 351 may cause them to burn out frequently because the EEC will hold them open longer, generating more heat in their coils.
