Xmission Lube

As I posted earlier, I am waiting on my owners manual, the Ford dealer ordered it yesterday, my question is, what type of lube do I use in my manual 5 speed overdrive and approximately how many quarts? I am going to purchase a Haynes manual as soon as possible, but I want to change out the x-mission lube in the morning before work, I believe it is the same as the diff.lube, what are your opinions on synthetic lube vs.regular lube? Thanks in advance!

Re: Xmission Lube

Al,
Is the Mercron Transmission Fluid the same for manual and automatics are are there differences? For some strange reason I thought gear lube went in manual x-missions!

Re: Xmission Lube

I logged onto the Ford page last night and tried to access the owners manual section and I was getting " page cannot be found" prompt, I just tried it again and same thing happened, is it possible to send it to me via e-mail? thanks!

Re: Xmission Lube

Manual 4-speeds up to '92 use 80W gear lube. 4-speeds '93&later and all 5-speeds and all transfer cases and '81&later automatics (except C5's) use Mercon (which is a Dexron III&IV equivalent). The Mazda 5-speed uses 7.6 qts, and the ZF uses 6.8 qts.
