Code Scanner?

I need to get a scanner. Was looking at them today and they range from $35 to $70? Does it matter?

Re: Code Scanner?

It shouldn't really matter. The cheaper ones will probably just have a blinking light that makes you count the blinks. The display gets more impressive (i.e. actually showing the code number)the higher in price you go. I have a cheap Sears (Actron) scanner that I used until I started using the Ford NGS tester we have at work. The Sears deal is good enough for home use.

DON\'T DO IT !!!

Code scanners are a JIP !!! There's nothing special inside them - it's just the connector you're paying for. Read the Haynes manual for how to hook up ONE WIRE to trigger the computer to flash the codes on the engine light (just like the "scanners" do on their own light). If your codes aren't listed in Haynes (partial list), I have a COMPLETE list in Excel that I'll e-mail you.
