low oil pressure

I have an 88 bronco with a 351w. The problem is that from from time to time I have low oil pressure. It is with in the normal range until it gets cold then the engine lite comes on. If I re-start the truck a few times it seems to get better, but always remains to low for comfort. I am thinking that the filter on the oil pump is clogged. Any suggestions would help. If my suggestion are correct how difficult is it to change the pump?

Re: Changing 351W oil pump

It is possible (although difficult) to change the pump without pulling the engine - I've done it. Do you mean that the pressure is low in winter, or that it drops if the running engine is suddenly cooled?? In winter (depending on climate), you should use a slightly less viscous oil (i.e. 10W30 instead of 10W40) so it can still flow. If the pressure drops when you ford a river, I'd say you have a problem.
