Here is where I am at…
I have bought a late model 5.0 motor out of a mustang. It needs completely rebuilt. I have it torn down and plan on having it overbored .030. I am going to run gt-40p heads along with some shorty gt40p headers. I plan on using edelbrock’s truck 5.0 intake. Now here is my question…Should I run the roller cam or not? If so about what size should I run? I plan on do some towing of my Cobra, so I need some good low and mid range. I am not really worried about high horsepower #’s, just some decent torque #’s. Now, I know that a 5.0 will not produce the power of a 351 but I have most of the 5.0 parts, so going to a windsor is not a option.
I thought about just going with a hydraulic flat tappet cam, something mild like the edelbrock performer cam. I believe it specs at 270/280, 44?,476. I think that would be a decent low end cam. If I go with a roller cam, what gains in power will I see, and what cam specs should I look for? I would really like to hear from people who have swapped ver to roller cams.
