Dumb Dad burn out!! Broke something? But what?

I got a used bronco for $500 me and my sons love it. Did some minor work to it, starter, alt. , drag link. Runs great. BUT....... was out hot rodding and tried to do a big burn out on pavement. (I know, I know...) Well something broke?? I am new to 4x4's and would like some info on what to check? Rear end, tranny, transfer case?? Wont do anything but make a really nasty sound when i put it gear, and while I was towing it?? please help...

Just wondering if you removed your driveshaft for towing or is it a manual transmission? What year Bronco is this? Were you in 4x4 while doing the burnouts? (probably not but you never know). If not, then its probably not the transfer case. Manual transmission? Problem could be there. It sounds like it could be the transmission since it makes the sound when you put it in gear. Worse case would be some broken gears if it is manual.

Too many unknowns at this point for me... reply back with some detail.

yep. give us the make and model at the very least. If you are getting grindage when putting it in gear I'd guess it's tranny or tcase related. If it's a manual it could be the clutch as well. I'm going on a limb here but try moving the tcase selector around then putting it back in 4 Hi. If the tcase was out of gear then that would cause a racket when you tried to put it in gear. You mention a drag link so I'm guessing maybe a 78 or 79?
