Hi like the title of the post said I just bought a 83 F-150 4X4. It's my first Ford but not my first 4 wheeler. What I would like some help with is a couple of things. Where can I read up on some basics about my truck and what cheap tricks do you guys know that might help me out as far as lifts or what ever you might think of. Also links to relavent sites would be appreciated.
This site has alot of good info on that year of truck. The Ford trucks were pretty much the same from 1980-96 so anything that pertains to any of those trucks will pretty much pertain to yours. The first thing you should do is go get yourself a Chilton's or Haynes manual and read it.
There really is no cheao way to lift your truck. It has the Dana 44 TTB front suspension and this is one of the stronger IFS suspensions but also one of the most expensive to modify.
Alot of sites have good info on Ford trucks.
All of these are sites with different forums like this.
Superford.org is a site with galleries of different people's trucks and what all they have done to them. Hope this helps and dont be afraid to ask questions.
I've had my 1990 150 since october and I really enjoy it. When you say that there is no cheap way to lift these trucks just how much are we talking about here in money and time? Because I would like 3 or 4 more inch's in the suspension.
You can get coil spacers for 2 inches for about 80 bucks. Then get an alignment and your set. The back is pretty easy a set of 3" to replce the 1.5" factory blocks for 25 bucks.
More suspension lift than this is $$$
Why spend 80-100 bucks on cheapo gayy ass spacers when you can spend 130 on a new set of leveling coils? And why raise the back? You arent going to run anything larger than a 33" with this setup w/o cutting and 33s fill both wheel wells nice with a leveling kit and factory rear suspension.
The reason people say this is an expensive suspension to lift is becuase it is. Drop brackets for both the axle pivot and radius arms eqauls lots of parts and lots of labor at a shop.
Will I have enough travel with the stock suspension? I don't want my tires rubbing. I apologize for all the noob questions but how do the leveling coils work and who makes them. Thanks for all the help.
Super lift sells them. I had them on my truck and it rode like a tank. Thats why i run spacers. Mine are actually big round pieces of steel i had laying around for free. Eather way 2 inch is the most unless you want a $$$ lift. JCWhitney sells all that stuff or a local 4x4 shop
