Computer

So my main computer is doing all kinds of funny things with the motor and tranny so Im gonna replace it. Has anyone here changed out the master computer, and what have you replaced it with? Ford wants $240 for a new one, but Im wondering if there is something better from the aftermarket. Any thoughts? Thanks

Re: Computer

I went to my local-Advance auto and got one when I did my 5.0 to 5.8 swap I think it was about $200 with trade in.

It's real easy to do- a bolt and a few screws and your done. Have you gotten the codes from it.

Oh ya- Advance will also check it if you bring it in.-Bob

Re: Computer

the computer doesnt freak out unless the sensors are causing it to. so changing ecu's isnt going to fix a thing. you need to determine why its freaking out. and go to a pick an pull for an ecu first its cheaper

Re: Computer

Well if the computer is broke, it doesn't need bad sensors to cause it to act up... Broke is broke...

But before swapping out you ECM you really should have the codes checked to see what else might be setting it off before dumping the money into a new box...

Good luck...
