F-250/F-350 front axle question
I know this has probably be addressed before, but what determines what front axle came on the 92-97 F-250s and F-350s? Most of the gas engine F-250s i see are a TTB front. What was the requirement to have a solid axle in the 250? Does gas or deisel matter?
Also, are all the rear axles, regardless of front, a Dana 60? |
Re: F-250/F-350 front axle question
80-85 Ford put the leaf TTB on it's F250s and F350s. In 86 Ford started putting the King Pin D60 under the F350s again. I believe in 90 or 91 Ford switched to the Ball Joint D60 and started putting solid D50s under there F250s (could be wrong on the dates there) I think Ford was just using up it's surplus D50 sections from the old TTBs on the solid axles untill they ran out of them. Are you looking for a donor axle or are you looking for a truck to buy?

Re: F-250/F-350 front axle question
Norm, I am actualy looking at buying another truck. I was just wondering, becuase I want to find the one that has everything I want in it, preferable a F-250 4x4 with a Powerstroke and a solid front end. But as it looks, they are kinda hard ot come by.

Re: F-250/F-350 front axle question
86-91 F350. They may not have the powerstroke but they still have the kingpin D60s.

Re: F-250/F-350 front axle question
I don't belevie any had a solid front end. I think they were all Dana 44's or Dana 33's
The F250's were if you had a supercab and diesel then a D44 and a 10.25 sterling rear. if you had a gas or reg cab then the D33 and not sure which rear they used- check at ford-trucks.com i'm sure one of the guys will help |
Re: F-250/F-350 front axle question
What the hell is a D33? Ford never put anything less than a D44 on it's 1/2 ton trucks. The F250s continued to use the leaf TTB D50 throughout the 80s. It wasn't untill the Superduty that they put the solid D50s under it.
