Ignition switch

Hi Guys,

I seem to have a problem with the ignition switch on my 96 Bronco. I can turn the switch (wihtout key) about 1/2" left or right until the ding dong thing comes on when the door is open. Sometimes, when I turn the switch (with key), I hear only a click, Then I wiggle the switch back and forth until it finally starts. Do I need to replace the switch only or the locking mechanism or both?

Thanks,

Ed

Re: Ignition switch

Thanks for the "hint".

I did that and I didn't find an answer. Guess I have to take off the shroud and see for myself. Thought someone could give me a quick answer.

Re: Ignition switch

It sounds to me like you need a new keylock. About $7.50 at your local parts store. To replace it turn the key to on and stick a paperclip in that little hole right under where your keylock fits and it will slide right out. It takes 30 seconds to replace. Just slide your new one in till it clicks and turn the key off. Your done.

Re: Ignition switch

Yes it comes with 2 keys. I have replaced mine and it really only takes about 30 seconds.

Re: Ignition switch

Damn, why your guys stuff so cheap. Replaced my key switch because it was sticky and hesitating to start a bit sometimes .Cost me $50 plus tax then another $40 to key it to my stock key.

Our dollar is not that bad . . .

Re: Ignition switch

Where are you shopping at? O'riely Auto Parts, Autozone and Advance auto all have them for 12$ and under. Look in the Help section. My truck has the seperate key for doors and ignition so I never bothered getting mine re-keyed.
