High Pinion???

Got to looking at the diff on my D44 the otherday, when I bought it the pig was upside down but I figured the axle itself was upside down (didnt study it to hard), well while unloading today I realized with the axle right side up that the pig was in fact a high pinion setup, it came out from under a pickup, is this normal? Im buying Ring and pinion kits this weekend so I kinda need to know if I gotta buy reverse rotation gears

Re: High Pinion???

ford = normal high pinion... only in the mid to early 70's was it a low pinion(77 down f250, 72 or so down f150's where the only low pinion fronts.)
same axle that i installed under my zuk....

Re: High Pinion???

If your 44 was a '67 to '72 F series 4X4 front axle, chances are it's a high pinion. I believe '66 and earlier were low pinion and I'm not sure about '73 and newer. You will have to get a reverse cut gearset

Re: High Pinion???

Ok thanks guys that explains it a little more, I didnt have my hopes up, more like a concern for the R&P kit I was about to purchase. Its off a 1974 F150 so that explains it, oh well, still a better setup non the least
