Ignition Switch

My Ignition switch on the steering column recently crapped out on me. I have been trying to remove the switch following the instructions in my chiltons manual which are so incredibly vague Im surprised I found the switch based on their directions. Anyways have any of you removed this switch or do you know how? Chiltons says something about drilling out a retaining pin and then the whole thing will slide out the front. I already have the steering wheel off and the turn signal switch mechanism removed, I dont know if this is neccesary but it seemed like the thing to do at the time. Thanks in advance for any infromation you may be able to provide.

Re: Ignition Switch

you mean the keyed ignition switch?
turn key on slightly, it will open up a window from below.
insert pick tool, slide out the key cylinder....
no need to remove anything other than a peice of shrouding.

Re: Ignition Switch

Yes I mean the part where the key inserts. I tried using that access hole on the bottom of the column as instructed by chiltons, but still cant seem to get it. You say you need to turn the key on? How far?

You can get them from any auto part store for about 10 bucks.
