gear selection/suggestion

I have just completed SAS. Went from stock w/4.10 gears and 36 TSLs to one tons w/4.56 and 39.5 TSLs. I'm running a C-6 with an NP 208 According to gear ratio calculators these combinations are almost identical. Previously in 4x low (2.62) I felt like I could jump off the ground. Now the seat of my pants tells me that I'm undergeared. How much of a different feel am I going to get with the bigger set up? Am I just feeling the added weight of the heavier gears, axle shafts, 39.5s etc?

Although this is not my daily driver I still may drive up to a couple of hundred miles on the highway to reach offroad destinations. Considering no od in my 3 speed tranny am I at the top of my range? I'm turning about 2600 at 60 now. Is 4.88 or 5.13 something to be considered?

I'd say 4.88s for the street or 5.13s for dirt. Are you running a D60 or 44? I'm hoping its a D60 with 39s.

Re: gear selection/suggestion

Considering your current RPM's at 60, I'd say if you want to maintain any kind of highway speed you need to stay where you're at now. I would not pay to go from 4.56 to 4.88. I think your only real option is 5.13's, and that means either highway at 55mph turning high RPM's, or a tranny swap as well.

Hey BigNorm, hope all is well with ya!
He did post "one tons" on the axle swap, so I would assume D60 or better in front.

Norm I am running a 60

Juice the guy at the driveline shop also said that going from 4.56 to 4.88 would be a waste. It looks like 5.13 and 50-55 mph on the highway is the choice.
