Please help...starter issues

Hello all, I rescently ran a 1989 F250 ZF transmission, the setup used a 164 Tooth flywheel. Currently I upgraded to a C4 transmission, I used a 1975 Comet bellhousing, and a 1990 mustang SFI flexplate (50 ounce), this flexplate is only a 157 tooth. Being as I didnt realize this I strapped the 164 tooth starter on there and of course it turned over, didnt even attempt to catch the ring gear. For the record I run no dust cover, so, is 7 Teeth a big enough deal to where the starter wouldnt even catch the ring gear? Also my last question is, formitably would the 1990 mustang starter take care of this problem?

Thanks again guys

Re: Please help...starter issues

I'm by no means the expert but after thinking about this for a while, I think you would have to use the 1990 starter. For proper alignment. Can someone back this up?-BOB
