NP208/BW1356 Opinnions

Ok....Everyone has an opinion so lets hear it....

I got an 83 Ext cab 4x4 and an 86 reg cab 4x4...both F250's

im going to be swapping the 460/c6 in the 86 into the 83 ext cab for a tow rig....

the 86 has a 1356 and the 83 has an NP208...

Which one would be the better of the two? This truck will be 99% tow rig/camper for camping and towin my zuk. which case is stronger/more reliable? I dont really need the super low range so ratio's are negligable...

so come on guys lets hear it!!

I really like my 1356. Shifts real easy and is quite strong. But I don't know much about the 208. If I am not mistaken it was one of the weaker NP's put out. Still decent though. Someone should be by soon to give you more accurate info on those and correct me if I am wrong.

Re: NP208/BW1356 Opinnions

Yeah, I've always heard the 1356 is a slightly better 'case but I couldn't tell you why specifically. I used to think the 1356 used a larger chain, but I now think the 208 and 1356 actually use the same chain.

I can tell you the 1356 has it's share of problems.......namely that the oil pump eats thru the 'case and stops pumping, and the bearings start to spin in the case due to a loose fit to begin with along with something about the magnesium. All of this can be fixed, but it's a gear drive 203 and 205 for me next time. I've got the 205, so I'm getting there LOL

The 208 is 1" shorter than the 1356.

That's about all I know.
