Considering a 1980-1985 F350

I was just wondering what you guys could tell me about these trucks. I've never considered one before, but there are a couple for sale in my area that are pretty cheap. I know they have the TTB axle up front, but what type of rear axle did they come with? What can you guys tell me about the motors during those years? (I heard that Ford used some pretty crappy carbs during that time period is this true?) Anyway thanks for any answers/advice, I appreciated it much.

Save yourself the heartache and get yourself and 86+ with the D60 up front. 86-91 F350's had a solid D60 King Pin (as opposed to ball joints) axle. I would also think that the years described above would all have Fuel Injection as well and some with Diesels. What do you want to use the beast for? Towing? wheeling? if so what type of wheeling? Carbs aren't bad if you are going to run relatively flat ground all the time.

Thanks for the advice. I'd love to have a later model 1 ton, but finances dictate buying something cheaper I was thinking that if I bought one of these trucks, I could just find a D60 Ford front end in a junk yard and bolt it in. How feasible is this? Oh yeah, I dont like carbs but I'm sure I could live with it.
