Ford rear dana 60 width questions

okay i have learned a rear ford 60 out of lets say a 79 pickup is apprximatly 64" wheel mount to wheel mount.
now my main question, is the pinion centered, or are the gears centered? so basically, is th epinion offset towards the passanger side rufly 1" or so?

Re: Ford rear dana 60 width questions

ya. im trying to find out which 60 i need so i can cut the one tube down to line it up with my offset T case. if the pinion is offset an 1inch or so to the passangher side on a dana 60 i should be able to cut it down to 59" and have a perfect alignment. if nto i can get a van d61 thats slightly wider an dcut thaty down more to get it over more.

this will be the temporary rear axle till the HP steering 60 goes in.
i need beadloicks, and i might as well get them in the final lug pattern i want to run, so i might as well switch the frotn to 8 lugs with chevy outers, and then do this cheapy 60 in the rear for now.
