More power from a 300 6cyl?

A friend of mine has an 84' F150 2wd pickup, 300CID, 4 spd.
tranny (granny gear), and was wondering if there are any power upgrades for his motor. I done 2 upgrade's on my 82' CJ7, 258CID (MC2100 carb. & HEI dist.), and my friend's brother done his 90' Wrangler Jeep the same as mine, and both worked out great. Better throttle response and idle, better fuel mileage also, from what we had (Carter BBD carb. and Duraspark dist.). Just wondering if anybody could give some input as to this question. I don't know if there is a lot that can be done with a Ford 6 cyl. or not. Thanks.
