k&n

i did a search and all i get is a lil of this and alil of that on this subject but what is the way to go just get a filter or go the system rout what are the performance changes witha k&n i here a lot of good things about it give me some opinionsplease

Filter element only

Slight increase in throttle response and fuel economy, barely noticeable but worth the $40 in the proverbial long run.

Yeah. Just get a stock replacement. It'll stay alot cleaner if you wheel it often. I have a 4" open element and wish I'd just gotten the stock replacement. I like K&N. A K&N and Taylor spiropro wires are always my first two engine mods.
