I think I need a power Steering pump???

OK, I've gota a wierd situation on my F150. The steering acts like it has a hard spot in it and always pulls left.....but I can cancel it out by steering hard to the right..........then it goes straight down the road for a while. My first thought was that my tie rods were bad...or maybe my center link. I checked things out while I was down there changing the shocks today and everything is fine. COULD IT BE my power steering pump??????? when it pulls it's ALWAYS to the left, I know these things are prone to going bad.....it's also kinda noisy but I didn't notice because it's a ford. They've never made a decent PS pump ANYWAY...if anyone has any ideas let me know

THANKS,
--Jason

hmmmm that sounds more like steering box wear or even worn linkage. best way to find out is jack it up and see if there's slack and where it is.

Yeah, highly unlikely it's the pump. I'd vote steering box as well. They're expensive so triple-check everything else first, including the steering shaft from firewall to box.

Re: I think I need a power Steering pump???

Ya, the steering is sloppy anyway I was gonna tighten the adjustment on the steering box for that problem.......but if it's the box anyway I won't bother. I'll have to lift the truck up and take a look, if it's the steering box where will the slop be? Not real sure what to look for, never had to deal with the steering box before

THANKS,
Jason
